OBJECTIVES:
PT PLN Main Central Java Transmission Unit (PLN UIT JBT) launched a program to clean up and conserve the Cikapundung River as a commemoration of World Environment Day.

CHALLENGE:
The Cikapundung River is an important natural resource for the City of Bandung, West Java. However, over the past few years, this river has experienced significant degradation due to pollution and environmental damage.

SOLUTIONS:

The program initiated by PT PLN UIT JBT aims to reduce river pollution, restore damaged ecosystems, and increase public awareness of the importance of maintaining cleanliness and nature conservation.

This activity took place on Friday, 9 June 2023 which took place at Taman Alun-Alun Regol which was attended directly by Ms. Dra. Sri Kurniasih M.Sc as Regol District, Mr. Han Handrian as the Pasirluyu Lurah, Mr. Nurjati as the representative for the Environment Service, Mr. Yadi as the representative from BBWS, Mr. Ace as the BBWS Regol representative, PLN UIT JBT employee, Mr. Asep Nurdin as CEO of Filantra, The Citarum Task Force, the community, students and volunteers also took part in this collaborative program.

In an effort to maintain the cleanliness and sustainability of the Cikapundung River, this program managed to collect as much as 3,000 kg of waste from the river and around the river. In addition, PT PLN UIT JBT also held educational and environmental awareness programs for participants who attended, especially the people around the Cikapundung river.

All stakeholders involved in this program also carried out reforestation and planting of vegetation around the Cikapundung River. The trees planted are expected to play a role in absorbing water, reducing soil erosion, and providing a habitat for local flora and fauna. In addition, planting vegetation also provides visual beauty and maintains air quality around the river.

Through the Cikapundung River clean-up and conservation program, PLN UIT JBT is committed to maintaining environmental sustainability and providing positive benefits to the surrounding community. This effort is a concrete form of corporate social responsibility and contribution to sustainable development.
