THE ASTRA WELFARE VILLAGE PROGRAM IN MEKARWARNGI VILLAGE RAISES LOCAL FARMERS TO BE MORE EMPOWERED

PARTNER:
ASTRA INTERNASIONAL

INDUSTRY:
Automotive Industry

OBJECTIVE:
Empowering fostered farmers in Desa Mekarwangi, Kecamatan Lembang, Kabupaten Bandung Barat, Jawa Barat.

CHALLENGE:
The need for business development in agriculture, animal husbandry, as well as small businesses.

SOLUTION:
JAKARTA. Through the Desa Sejahtera Astra program, in the village of Mekarwangi, Lembang District, West Bandung Regency, West Java, we have succeeded in lifting fostered farmers to become more empowered on Thursday (23/9/21).

This fact was conveyed by Mr. Aep Saepudin, Mekarwangi DSA Facilitator, who since 2019 has been assisting Astra’s mentors in the field of community empowerment. This program is engaged in agriculture, animal husbandry and small businesses.

Through training and mentoring; of which is routinely and wholeheartedly given to the members, they have now made a real impact. The impact felt by the members includes an increase in the turnover of the fostered businesses.

One of them is as stated by Mr. Dadan (44 years), a resident of RT 4 RW 1, kp Sukamulya, Mekarwangi Village, Lembang District, West Bandung Regency. He said that their agricultural business is improving, getting better, and growing overall. This is because Pak Aep is not only a facilitator, but also a cultivation guide, who provides assistance in the form of sprayer pumps, fertilizer assistance, routine training, etc. The impact can be seen from the better cultivation of the assisted farmers in the Bina Makmur farmer group together.

Apart from agriculture, Mr. Aep Saepudin also fosters and guides rabbit farming. Thanks to his guidance, currently the residents of Mekarwangi Village can export rabbits to Pakistan and other export destination countries on a regular basis.

“Hopefully through this DSA program, the community will be more advanced, empowered and prosperous,” said Mr. Aep Saepudin, as the facilitator of Mekarwangi Village.
