GETTING TO KNOW INDONESIA’s G20 PRESIDENCY
Indonesia for the first time leads the G20 forum (Group of Twenty) in 2022, starting from December 1st, 2021 until the handover of the next presidency at the G20 Summit on November 30th, 2022. The election of Indonesia has become a new history since this forum was formed in 1999.
The establishment of this forum is one of the efforts to find a solution to the global economic conditions hit by the global financial crisis in 1997-1999 by involving developed and developing countries including Indonesia.
This multilateral cooperation forum focuses on policy coordination in the economic and development fields, which represent more than 60% of the earth’s population, 75% of global trade, and 80% of the world’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Its members consist of 19 main countries and the European Union, namely South Africa, United States of America, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, India, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Canada, Mexico, Republic of Korea, Russia, France, China, Turkey and the European Union. Indonesia is also the only country in Southeast Asia that is a member of the G20.
As the G20 presidency in 2022, Indonesia carries the theme “Recover Together, Recover Stronger”. Through this theme, Indonesia wants to invite the whole world to work hand in hand, support each other to recover together and grow stronger and more sustainable amidst the pressures of the Covid-19 pandemic and the challenges of climate change.
In overcoming the crisis we are facing together, collective action is needed globally for a strong and sustainable recovery. Therefore, Indonesia’s role in the 2022 G20 presidency will focus on three topics, namely strengthening the global health architecture, digital transformation, and energy transition with the aim of realizing strong, sustainable, balanced, inclusive and environmentally friendly global growth.
Indonesia’s G20 presidency can be a momentum for economic recovery in various fields with a series of meetings that bring together thousands of delegates from all member countries and various international institutions. This opportunity must be used to show the progress of Indonesia’s development to the world. Where this can have an impact through increasing the country’s foreign exchange, investment potential in Indonesia and can be a means to introduce Indonesian tourism to the world.
The manifestation of the spirit of recovering together is reflected in the logo of the G20 Presidency of Indonesia which introduces local traditions as well as represents the spirit of recovery in various sectors experienced by the world today. The G20 Indonesia Presidency logo consists of three main elements. First, the mountains represent a new chapter and balance. Second, kawung reflects determination and is useful for others. Third, the dalang symbolizes an active role.
The logo of the Indonesian G20 Presidency as a whole depicts a symbol and hope in an effort to advance global economic growth. In addition, it is hoped that this presidency can have a positive impact on Indonesia and the world.
