SOLUTIONS:

The Empowering Partner Filantra team again distributed gifts to porters at Kiara Condong Station, Bandung. The assistance provided was in the form of food packages and cash assistance.

 One of the porters, Mr. Basri, whose address is Babakan Sari, Bandung, said that since the pandemic his income has greatly decreased. Passengers’ fears when we carry their goods and also economic problems have contributed to the decline in porter services.

Mr. Basri has been a porter at Kiara Condong Station for more than 3 years, leaving in the morning at around 05.30 and returning home at 11.00 at night. When met by the Philantra Team, Mr. Basri told me that today’s income was 30 thousand rupiah. It’s a lot lower than before the pandemic, which could pocket up to 100 thousand rupiah per day. Pak Basri hopes that the pandemic will end and the porters can work normally again.
